Located at the heart of the African Continent, Uganda is a country truly gifted by nature and well deserves the title of “Pearl of Africa”. Uganda is best known for viewing the endangered mountain gorilla's, chimpanzees and other primates as well as being home to savannas teeming with wildlife, tropical rainforests, spectacular waterfalls, shimmering lakes and rivers as well as the glacial peaks of the Rwenzori mountains 'Mountains of the Moon'. Uganda is Africa's most complete birdwatching destination with more than 1000 species recorded.

10 Day Camping Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your Travel2Uganda (T2U) safari guide who will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to your camping grounds in Kampala. Red Chilli Hideaway is a 40 minutes drive from Entebbe International Airport.

Red Chilli Hideaway: This is Kampala's premier backpackers location in Kampala. It offer large grounds to camp on, hot showers and a swimming pool.

Day 2: This morning we will leave Kampala at 8am and we will drive through the famous Luwero Triangle. On the way we will stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where we will go rhino trekking for about an hour. After having lunch we then continue to Murchison Falls National Park. On arrival at the park we will stop at the top of the falls which will be a fantastic sight. Here the Nile, the longest river in the world, is forced through a narrow gap in the rock (only 7 meters wide ), before ferociously plunging down 43 meters. From here we will continue on to the Shoebill Campsite.

Shoebill Campsite: This campsite is on the banks of the River Nile providing perfect viewing of all the animals in and around the waters edge. Hot showers available, as well as a swimming pool at the main lodge.

Day 3: This morning an early wildlife drive, where you can see elephants, buffalo, giraffes, lions, Uganda kob, warthog and many other animals. After Lunch we can go for a boat trip up the River Nile. On this trip you can see crocodiles, hippos and a lot of birds. If you are lucky you can even see the rare and prehistoric looking Shoebill, which is a cross between the dodo and a dinosaur. The boat takes you to the base of the falls where you will stop for photo opportunities.

Day 4: This morning enjoy your breakfast and then we will depart with a packed lunch for Kibale National Park. The drive will take approximately 7 hours stopping in Hoima for lunch. We will reach Crater Valley Kibale Forest Resort Beach Lodge in the late afternoon.

Crater Valley Kibale Forest Resort Beach Lodge: This camp site is located on the tranquil crater Lake Nyabikere (meaning lake of frogs), facing the Mountains of the Moon (Rwenzori) where snow is visible on a clear day. The site has hot and cold showers and sitting flush toilets.

Day 5: This morning you will meet up with a ranger to track habituated chimps. The trekking will take approximately 2 – 4 hours. These delightful apes, are tremendous fun to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees. The Incredibly diverse forest is home to over 13 species of primates including red colobus monkey, L'hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bushbabies. A network of shady forest trails provides much to delight botanists and butterfly lovers, while birders are in for a treat with 335 species recorded including the endemic Prirogrine's ground thrush. The elusive forest elephant, moves seasonally into the developed part of the park, while other terrestrial mammals include buffalo, giant forest hog and half dozen antelope species. The afternoon is to your leisure.

Overnight at Crater Valley Kibale Forest Resort Beach Lodge

Day 6: Today we transfer from the forest to the savannah, as we travel from Kibale Forest National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is about a 3 hour drive though the town of Kasese. We arrive at Tembo Safari Campsite in time for lunch. In the late afternoon we will got for a wildlife drive, be on the look our for elephant, buffalo, hippo, lions antelopes, hyenas among other species as well as over 600 bird species.

Tembo Safari Campsite: This campsite overlooks the Kazinga Channel which links lake Edward and Lake George. Enjoy a hot shower and cold drinks here.

Day 7: After an early breakfast we will head out for a wildlife drive to Kasenyi areas. The tracks offer one of the best game viewing areas. We move through grassy plains which support elephant, buffalo, hippo, lions antelopes, hyenas among other species. We will head back to the campsite for lunch and a chance to relax before taking an afternoon boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. This will give you the opportunity to view wildlife up close as hippo's huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, while buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. After this wonderful afternoon, a slow drive back to the campsite for dinner.

Day 8: In the morning after breakfast we transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to the few remaining mountain gorillas. This is about a 4 hour drive, driving through the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. We will take a short wildlife drive though this section of the park, and be on the look out for the famous tree climbing lions here. We arrive at Buhoma Community Rest Campsite in time for dinner.

Buhoma Community Rest Campsite: There are several leveled terraces on which to camp on. Hot showers and cold beers and sodas are available with local produce used to provide visitors meals.

Day 9: Wake early for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for Gorilla Trekking. Before 8am report to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers. The guides will then take you through the bush , pushing your way through the undergrowth, to track the gorillas. (Please note this trek can take from 2 to 7 hours). A reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them 'talk' to one another and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant Silverback. After trekking enjoy a well-deserved rest at the campsite.

Day 10: This morning an early breakfast , then we will depart with a packed lunch back to Kampala about a 10 - 12 hour drive. Once you arrive in Kampala , your guide will drive you to Entebbe International Airport for your outbound flight . Please note you have to be at the Airport 2 hours before your departure.
